Antioxidants That Help Treat Shingles

Shingles is the common name of Herpes zoster, which is caused by a virus named Varicella Zoster which is also responsible for causing chickenpox. This virus lies dormant in the nerve cells near the spinal cord.

But when the immune system of a person infected with Varicella Zoster gets weakened during the later period of his life (as in the case of HIV or cancer patients, or in the case of organ transplants patients who are prescribed anti-rejection drugs), the virus grabs the opportunity and travels along nerve pathways to the skin where it causes a painful and itchy rash-like blisters. Shingles usually appear suddenly and attack just a single area on only one side of the body. The pain caused due to Shingles can either be mild or intense and is accompanied by severe itching, constant fever-like feeling along with weakness and fatigue. Some people might also suffer from depression.

People who have suffered from chicken pox in the past need to be very careful and they can avoid the risk of shingles if they take a nutritious and healthy diet which is rich in Vitamins A, C and E, Zinc, and other antioxidants to boost up the functioning of their body’s immune system.

Although there are many effective medicines in the market to treat shingles, they are known to have very severe detrimental impacts and side effects on the body. However, there are a few natural herbal remedies like Zosterol readily available in the market across the globe that can help boost the body’s immune system safely, without any harmful side effects.

Hot peppers are rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C, and natural antioxidants that help to protect the body against a number of diseases and enhance the body’s capacity to ward off infections. Studies have proved that hot peppers and even garlic are very common in the treatment of the pain resulting from shingles.
