Apart from providing the body with adequate energy, a healthy breakfast also gives other benefits such as better mental performance and concentration, improved health and a better mood. Studies prove that children who tend to skip breakfast regularly, lack sufficient quantities of essential vitamins and minerals in their body such as vitamin B2 and iron, calcium and zinc. Skipping breakfast may force a person to switch to less healthy snacks and lead him to binge eating.
An ideal breakfast must be a balanced meal and must include the following:
- Bread or other cereals, which provide the body with carbohydrates for instant energy, B-vitamins and fibre. It is always advisable to opt for whole meal varieties to ensure a good fibre intake.
- Fruit and vegetables, are good sources of vitamins A and C and are therefore considered as the best option for a healthy breakfast across the globe. You can simply eat a whole fruit or eat a fruit salad made out of a variety of fruits available at home or even go for dried fruits added to your cereal. Most people love to drink a glass of fruit juice as it is very refreshing.
- Milk and dairy foods such as cheese provide the body with essential proteins, calcium and B- vitamins.
- Poached, boiled or scrambled eggs and toast along with baked beans is a very healthy option for those wanting a filling breakfast.
